Title: The UnfinishedCategory: Book DesignDate: 2021

un·fin·ished /ˌənˈfiniSHt/

i: not brought to an end or to the desired final state

ii: being in a rough state : UNPOLISHED

iii: subjected to no other processes (such as bleaching or dyeing) after coming from the loom

Critiquing the flawed concept of ‘finish’ long formed in modern society, the instruction book The Unfinished displays, applies, and normalizes the art of incompletion on a daily basis. It aims for shifting the focal point from ‘destination’ to ‘process’ in-stead. Through The Unfinished, while being able to notice and capture the common existence of “incompletion” in their daily lives, the audience are also invited to practice the unconventional art of the ‘unfinished’.

Divided into five chapters, The Unfinished invites its audience to self-define, consciously recognize, actively practice, and eventually embody the concept of “unfinished”.

With the aid of various mediums such as original photography, 3D renderings, typography, sound, video, The Unfinished, in essence, encourages its audience to interact with and respond to instructions of their own choice, some of which have been documented and selected alongside the instructions. Ultimately, the goal is to have a collection of responses turned into an unfinished online archive along with the book for the audience to view and contribute at any time.
